What gets you out of bed in the morning? Is it your job? Maybe, it’s an obligation like getting the kids ready for school? Have you ever asked yourself what you are living for? If we call ourselves a Christian, the Apostle Paul tells us that whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
Romans 14:7-8
“For none of us lives for himself, and no one dies for himself. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”
We Don’t Live for Ourselves
John Donne said, “No man is an island unto himself.” What he meant was that no person lives an isolated life. We don’t live for ourselves. If we aren’t a follower of Jesus, then we are a slave to our sin, but if we do follow him, we live for the Lord. That means every breath and step we take is to glorify him. Have you ever thought about that when you woke up? If not start today.
Improve Your Witness
If our life is not our own, we need to change our focus and priorities. We are either giving God the glory by how we live and what we say, or we are tarnishing his image. Our witness should be a light to those who don’t know Christ. They should see how we live and how we treat people and be attracted to that when we do live that way we pave the path for us to share the Gospel.
Time for a Checkup?
What are you living for? Maybe it’s time to do a checkup. Assess your life and see what needs to get in alignment with God’s word. Are you struggling with obedience? Is there a besetting sin that needs to be repented of? Do it today. Don’t waste your life by trying to be something else. Live like a child of God.
