Did You Know, Peace is a Person!

I was reading this scripture when something dawned on me…

II Thessalonians 3:16
“Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means.  The Lord be with you all.”

If you’re anything like me, you’re always trying to find a place of peace when trouble or circumstances come your way.  It seems when I search for peace, a place always comes to mind.   A quite coffee house where I can just sit and drink in the quietness around me, or maybe I leave and drive somewhere special, a place where no one is around and I can just sit quietly and think and be alone.  I often find that this type of peace is short lived…when I return home to the noise and bustle…the heaviness of life is still there, all the problems return.  The “peace” I found in a certain place was gone the moment I walked back in the door of home.

As I read this scripture, I realized something.  Peace isn’t a place I can find on a map, or even a place I can create.  it isn’t a place I seek out or somewhere I can go.  Peace is a PERSON!  The scripture says the Lord of peace, HIMSELF…

If that’s the case, and peace is a Person, no matter how chaotic it gets in my life , He is always present.  Over the screams and cries of a toddler, the beep of the oven timer, the call from a husband needing something, the ringing of the telephone, the chiming of the doorbell, I can hear His voice, low and soft: Peace…Peace…wonderful Peace.  If I come unto Him, He will give me rest.

Wow…isn’t it wonderful to know that?  A Person who will never leave you or forsake you, and is as close as the mention of His name.  Peace is a Person with whom we can live, keep company with, commune with.  Peace is a Person that will be closer than a brother or sister.  Can you hear Him now?  Above all the noise and frustrations and stress in your life…can you hear Him?  Above all the happenings of our busy week, if we pause long enough we’ll be able to hear Him speak to us.   Listen…and He’ll speak peace into your situation.
