Chosen By God

Scripture Text: ‘’And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean’’. (Numbers 8:7 KJV)

The Levites were the descendants of Levi, which was one of the twelve tribes of Israel. God changed Jacob’s name to Israel. ‘’And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed” (Genesis 32:28 KJV). There were twelve tribes of Israel. In order from the eldest to the youngest were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Zebulun, Issachar, Dan, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Joseph, and Benjamin. After the children of Israel left Egypt, they crossed the Red Sea. When Moses went upon Mount Sinai, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments and the pattern for the Tabernacle. In the meanwhile, while Moses was on Mount Sinai, the children of Israel were in Idolatry. The Levites were without a doubt on God’s side. Moses and Aaron were apart of the tribe of Levi. The Levites were chosen to take part of the Tabernacle of the Testimony. ‘’And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.  And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men’’ (Exodus 32:27, 28 KJV). The Levites were responsible to work ‘’ The Tent of Meeting, the Tabernacle’’. Levi had three sons:  Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. The family of Gershon was in charge of carrying and setting up the curtains of the Outer Court, the covering of the Tabernacle, and the Door of the Sanctuary, and the curtain to the Outer Court. These ropes had to be held strongly. The family of Kohath was in charge of the carrying and setting up the Ark of the Covenant, The Veil, and the golden incense altar, lamp stand, showbread table, laver, and the Burnt offering table together went with all the utensils these were required. The family of Merari was in charge of carrying and setting up the boards, the bars, and the Pillars of Sockets of the Outer Court. The children of Israel were on the move again. Their journey led them to the wilderness. The pillar of cloud (day) and the pillar of fire (night) would be an indication for them that God was leading them. The Levites had to dismantle the Tabernacle, and they moved it to their next destination, and it was reassembling according to where the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire led them. When the Tabernacle was set up to the next location, God commanded the twelve tribes of Israel to be established around it in a precise order. On the east side: Judah, Issachar, and Zebulan, on the south side: Reuben, Simeon, and Gad, on the west side: Ephraim, and Manasseh (the sons of Joseph) and Benjamin, and on the north side: Dan, Asher, and Naphtali. The Levites were encamped all the way around the Tabernacle. Being called of God is an honor and should not be taken lightly.  If God calls you that means you’re in His plan to fulfill a work and a purpose in which He has chosen for you. The work God has called me to do may not to the same as yours, but if we both work at what He has chosen us to do His plan will come together. Being a witness for Him and living a clean life before Him, this is the least we can do. Stay Strong!
