” Loving God and Our Neighbor”
By: Lynne Conley
Scripture Text: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:32 KJV)
The parable of the ‘’Good Samaritan’’ was a story Jesus told to His believers. The Samaritan rescued a stranger who was badly hurt and had been robbed. This same stranger had been ignored by a priest and a Levite. In spite of the opposition between the Jewish and the Samaritan population, the Samaritan gave assistance to the injured man: first by offering first-aid and then taking him to an inn to recover while promising to take care of the expenses. ‘’And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.’’ (Luke 10:35 KJV) These two silver coins equaled a person’s entire wages for an average manual worker. We all are different! Really, Jesus doesn’t care about where we live, the house we live in, the car we drive, or any of the material possessions we have accumulated over the many years we have been living. Remember, when people are kind, they don’t speak hateful words to one another. The definition for hateful is: characterized by malevolence or spite. (Encarta Dictionary) People that are kind will lend a helping hand to each other. Would we really help and love someone only if it’s convenient, or would we go “out of the norm” and show compassion? Stay Encouraged!
