DEFINITION: Supernatural Holy Spirit – given healing as a gift to individuals.
What are the gifts of healing? The verses seem to teach individual healings coming supernaturally from the Holy Spirit with a Christian as a tool.
The Purpose of the Gifts of Healing is to bring people to Jesus.

All Christians should be able to lay hands on the sick and see a recovery.(Mark 16) all of which is based on faith. “But the Gifts of Healing” is a total gift given to individuals based on Jesus grace.
Mk 16:15 (KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven and sat on the right hand of God.

An example of help in a church setting is the greeters and ushers who have the gifts of help. They help people. They have a strong desire to help people. Those who want to help without the gift will, but their desire to continue to help may wane. In other words, their task may turn into drudgery.
Jesus said: He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. Luke 3:11 (KJV)
All Christians are to help those in need.
Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

1 Timothy 3:4-5 (KJV)
BARNES – COMMENTARY OF 1 TI. 3:4
One that ruleth well his own house – This implies that a minister of the gospel would be, and ought to be, a married man. It is everywhere in the New Testament supposed that he would be a man who could be an example in all the relations of life.
The position which he occupies in the church has a strong resemblance to the relation which a father sustains to his household, and a qualification to govern a family well would be an evidence of a qualification to preside properly in the church. It is probable that, in the early Christian church, ministers were not unfrequently taken from those of mature life, and who was, at the time, at the head of families; and, of course, such would be men who had had an opportunity of showing that they had this qualification for the office.
Though however, this cannot be insisted on now as a “previous” qualification for the office, yet it is still true that, if he has a family, it is a necessary qualification, and that a man in the ministry “should be” one who governs his own house well. A want of this will always be a hindrance to extensive usefulness. Having his children in subjection with all gravity – This does not mean that his “children” should evince gravity, whatever may be true on that point; but it refers “to the father.” He should be a grave or serious man in his family; a man free from levity of character, and from frivolity and fickleness, in his conversation with his children. It does not mean that he should be severe, stern, morose – which are traits that are often mistaken for gravity, and which are as inconsistent with the proper spirit of a father as frivolity of manner – but that he should be a serious and sober-minded man. He should maintain proper”dignity”, he should maintain self-respect and his department should be such as to inspire others with respect for him.
CLARKE’S COMMENTARY ON 1 TI 3:4
The fourteenth qualification of a Christian bishop is, that he ruleth well his own house; one who properly presides over and governs his own family. One who has the command, of his own house, not by sternness, severity, and tyranny, but with all gravity; governing his household by rule, everyone knowing his own place, and each doing his own work, and each work having the proper time assigned for its beginning and end. This is a maxim of common sense; no family can be prosperous that is not under subjection, and no person can govern a family but the head of it, the husband, who is, both by nature and the appointment of God, the head or governor of his own house.
See the note on Eph_5:22.

CLARK’S COMMENTARY ON ROM 12:8
He that showeth mercy – Let the person who is called to perform any act of compassion or mercy to the wretched do it, not grudgingly or of necessity, but from a spirit of pure benevolence and sympathy.
The poor are often both wicked and worthless: and, if those who are called to minister to them as stewards, overseers, etc., do not take care, they will get their hearts hardened with the frequent proofs they will have of deception, lying, idleness, etc. And on this account, it is that so many of those who have been called to minister to the poor in parishes, workhouses, and religious societies, when they come to relinquish their employment find that many of their moral feelings have been considerably blunted; and perhaps the only reward they get for their services is the character of being hard-hearted. If whatever is done in this way be not done unto the Lord, it can never be done with cheerfulness.
STUDENTS: Whatever our gifts or situations may be, let us try to employ ourselves humbly, diligently, cheerfully, and in simplicity; not seeking our own credit or profit, but the good of many, for this world and that which is to come.
