“The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.” Psalm 19:1
I’m not a winter person. I’m not a cold weather person. Even 50 degrees is cold for me. I’m not a grey weather person. I love the bright warm sunshine and when all the trees and plants and bushes and flowers spring forth with growth and blooms and prettiness. I love colors. I don’t like starkness, barrenness, too much solitude, emptiness, naked trees, a dearth of flowers, the still bland blank canvas of day after day of the season in which not too much happens. Yes, winter. It’s not for me. So imagine my surprise when I was walking some of my sweet ministry dogs and these words burst forth from my heart.
“Lord, you’re the beauty in this day!” I exclaimed in my heart. Or was it aloud? I don’t remember.
Trouble with us humans is some of us especially myself have a tendency to focus on what we don’t like, what’s missing, what isn’t there, what makes us uncomfortable, on our challenges, on circumstances we’d prefer to do without, on the bad weather, on the season we don’t like, on our hurdles, obstacles, etc. When we do this, we don’t just miss the beauty of God’s bountiful blessings He bestows upon us each and every day. We miss the beauty of the Lord Himself!
I need to retrain my mind to focus on the Lord and His beauty, splendor, glory, brightness, light, love, mercy, Truth, hope, joy, peace, passion, wonder, wonderfulness, excitement, and breathtaking beauty, His amazing attributes, His awesomeness, etc. And I need to retrain my mind to focus on His phenomenally precious and beautiful Word, the Bible. I need to practice day by day turning my mind away from what brings me down and to look upward to the Lord and inward into the pages of the Bible. And rejoice over His beauty.
Oh, to behold the beauty and glory of the Lord! To behold the lamb of God! To behold the amazing splendor of God almighty in Christ, hallelujah!
Oh, behold the beauty in this day! Behold the Lord!
