I have often heard it said, “Charity begins at home.” The thought there is that we should first take care of ourselves and ours before we should take care of others. Jesus had a thought that we all should pay attention to. He wasn’t talking about charity but He was talking about starting at home.
“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” Matt 7:3-5We too often want to straighten up all of the wrongs and faults in another person’s life without ever taking care of the problems and weaknesses in our own life. It is like giving marital advise when you have an appointment with a divorce lawyer tomorrow. Or telling someone they need to stop smoking when you are smoking four packs a day. I remember, when I was young, a man telling me he wouldn’t come to our church because there were hypocrites in it. It was not one of my more “restrained” moments and I told him they were closer to God than he was, they were between him and God! I think “Spring Cleaning Should Start at Home!”Just a Thought! God Bless…
