Num 16:31-33

31And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: 32And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. 33They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

Hell Is Real

The story of Korah is a story that is very rarely told to the people of the world or even people in so-called churches, but hell is real and it is beneath our very feet. Jesus, being God, told this to the people of Earth when he did his earthly ministry. He refers to it many times, and the Bible speaks of Sheol — also known as Hades, also known as hell.

In this world of explanation and head-turning to dark, it is hard to conceive a loving God that they think can do that to people. But the totality of it is clear: God doesn’t send anybody to hell on a whim, but on peoples’ decisions. So if a person makes a decision that they know will send them to a bad fate, whose fault is that? It is that individual’s fault, because God isn’t petty — he is a just judge.

The Rebellion of Korah

The justice of what happened to Korah and his people was judgment they brought on themselves from “rebellion,” and “rebellion” is as the sin of “witchcraft.” The same thing happens today. It is the most prevalent source of what sends people to hell these days — it is the rebellious spirit that still exists that sends most people there.

I want to be clear: I am not dooming all people to hell like some people who say everything is the devil. But hell is real, and the top spirit that sends people to hell is rebellion, because it goes against the natural movement of God’s power and halts it and insults it and pushes it to the side.

Don’t Mock God

Remember, the Bible says don’t be deceived (fooled) — God is not to be mocked. Galatians 6:7“Be not deceived; God is not mocked.” He will not be mocked, and hell is awaiting those who try. The end is near and God is nearer than we expect him to be.

Isaiah 5:14 says “Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure.” She is hungry for the souls of those from the world, but she is even more hungry for those of us who will not hold to the wonderful truth of repentance, baptism in the name of Jesus, and being filled with the Holy Ghost. We need a fresh refilling of the fear of God so that our respect for God will flood our entire being.

The Rich Man and Lazarus

Jesus saw Satan fall, and he told us the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31. The rich man lived his life how he wanted, and whether you know it or not, it was the rebellion in him to do right that made him the way he was. He was high and haughty and thought only of himself and those he elected.

We know when people are like that — they rebel against God, because God will say to them just as was spoken when he told them to depart: when he was naked they did not clothe him, and so on. When we do not do what God wants us to do and what is lawfully right in his sight, then we are in rebellion.

Live for His Holiness

Don’t be a fool! God is watching all our lives, so let us all live for his right and for his holiness so that we may stand before him spotless and hear him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
