HOW I LONG FOR THE OLD SONGS
Who longs for my kind of music, those hymns beloved so much?
The hymns you just can't even today,
Get them out of your blood. ...
Think of the years you sung and worshiped,
And the hope they were for many.
God help us to revisit them,
We will be glad that we did!
For often times in my memory I go,
To the little church on the hill,
A place in time that I love so,
And I know I always will!
We’d sing those old gospel hymns,
From the bottom of our hearts,
As everyone sung along under the anointing,
For we all had our parts!
Someone played the piano or organ,
Another drums or tambourine,
We all were dressed in our best,
Now such a sight is never seen!
Sometimes we’d sing a song or two,
And the power of God would fall;
There wasn’t more left to do,
So the pastor gave the altar call!
How I long for those old songs,
They still mean so much to me,
Like “Amazing Grace or What a Friend in Jesus,
And Nearer My God to Thee!”
I’ve sung them in church with those I love
But now I must sing them alone,
But by the grace of God above one day,
I will sing them when I get Home!
